Republic of Korea claimed a 7-5 victory on Wednesday, despite a big push by Dominican Republic in the second inning. The big inning for Dominican Republic came thanks to singles by Junior Aybar and Smith Encarnacion.
Republic of Korea fired up the offense in the first inning. Minjae Kim drove in one when he singled.
Republic of Korea took the lead for good with four runs in the third inning. In the third Taehoon Lee singled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run, Joonseo Eo drew a walk, scoring one run, and Geonoh Song singled on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs.
Kim pitched Republic of Korea to victory. He surrendered four runs on four hits over one and two-thirds innings, striking out three. Min Seok Choi threw four and a third innings in relief out of the bullpen. Choi recorded the last 13 outs to earn the save for Republic of Korea.
Eric Veras took the loss for Dominican Republic. He allowed five hits and seven runs over three innings, striking out five.
Republic of Korea had six hits in the game. Lee and Kim all managed multiple hits for Republic of Korea. Kim and Lee each collected two hits to lead Republic of Korea.
Dominican Republic racked up eight hits on the day. Encarnacion and Aybar each racked up multiple hits for Dominican Republic. Encarnacion went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Dominican Republic in hits. Ricardo Román led Dominican Republic with two stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with seven stolen bases.
